Ad Hoc is a Brazilian improvisation orchestra with no fixed members. Each concert has its own personality with an exclusive and diverse group of musicians, trying to break the boundaries between different musical genres and promoting the dialogue of artists from multiple backgrounds. Bonding new groups within each session, the conductor Guilherme Peluci uses different techniques of conducted improvisation such as Conduction and Soundpainting to create music in real time.
Guilherme is a musician, researcher, conductor and architect. He has conducted around 500 artists in various improvisation sessions, including orchestras such as the London Improvisers Orchestra, São Paulo Improvisadores em Orchestra, Rio Art Orchestra, Sesc Chamber Orchestra and Unirio Big Band. Participated in different projects in festivals and tours in China, USA, France, UK, Argentina, Senegal and Brazil.
In common sense, conducted improvisation is understood as a spontaneous creation practice in which a conductor uses gestures and/or signs to define guidelines and lead a group of artists. The role of the conductor is to establish a safe environment and facilitate communication between the other participants, offering suggestions when necessary. The conductor (or mediator) suggests the structure while the participants respond with “content” / “action”. For this, he uses gestures and signs, such as "long note", "melody", "copy" and also complex concepts, metaphors such as the idea of the pedestrian: a musical character who walks attentively to his surroundings, as his walking develops, the environment changes and the pedestrian adapts by changing the way he walks.
In 2019 Guilherme Peluci, in partnership with the label QUENTE, participated in the musical residency Labsônica - Oi Futuro, in Rio de Janeiro. Guilherme invited 60 musicians from the city to participate in two weeks of immersion, with 6 days of recording. Each day featured a different group of artists, with different instruments and styles, who had never played together before. The result is a double album, created and recorded live, with 14 tracks, divided into two volumes, showing different sides of the sonic possibilities and the power of the project. The double album was completed with the support of the Aldir Blanc sponsorship and had almost 100 people involved in the entire process.
